Let’s be honest. It’s no picnic to write creative and memorable fictional characters anymore. Everything has been created in The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter novels alone. Now writers are desperately making it up as they go along.

Christopher Nolan may have had his dream project — Inception. But even his genius storyline needed a strong, compelling, and affecting character — Dominick Cobb played by Leonardo DiCaprio. At the end of the film, his character alone gives you goosebumps, more than the storyline does.

You can’t write characters as memorable as Sherlock Holmes every day. But if we go bonkers, you can write cool characters — without breaking a sweat.

My idea to write an enthralling character is to combine the character traits of different famous or infamous characters from TV shows, movies, and books in a way that people can’t help wondering what our character is up to. Nobody should predict what’s coming. Not even you.

To make it easier, I will demonstrate how to create a cool character by combining famous TV show characters alone.
